From their very first Christmas together to the end of their lives, Berta and Elmer Hader designed and created their own personal Christmas cards to send to friends, family, and colleagues. Most of the cards were tabloid size and were created from linoleum blocks which the Haders designed and cut themselves. The Haders then printed the cards in one or two colors, and each one was hand-painted in watercolor, so that each card sent was unique. The theme of each year’s card was usually related to whatever book they had written and/or illustrated that year.
Original copies of these cards are very rare, as they were not distributed publicly.
