Uploading Dissertations

a brief how-to guide demonstrating how to upload dissertations to CU Commons and ProQuest ETD Administrator

Text Instructions

These instructions work best for students who prefer text or use screen readers. Click here to go down to the same set of instructions that use screenshots.

To begin, go to CU Commons: http://commons.cu-portland.edu/

Once on the CU Commons site, follow these steps.

  • Click on the My Account link in the top menu.
  • Click on the Sign up link below the Login box.
  • Complete the form to create a user ID (email address) and password, as well as to set up your name.
    1. Fill in the fields for email address, first name, and last name
    2. Choose a password and re-enter the password
    3. Click the Create Account button when finished
  • An Account Activation message will appear that says "An email with an account activation link has been sent to the address you have provided."

Account Confirmation.

  • You should receive an account activation email from noreply@bepress.com
  • The subject of the email should be Confirm Your Account
  • Click on the Confirm Account link and then log in with your email address and password.

Once you log in, you'll be on your main account page.

  • Click on the Edit Profile link.
  • Affiliate your account with Concordia by going to the Institutional Affiliation section
  • Start typing Concordia University. Select Concordia University - Portland from the list of Concordias.
  • Click the Update button to save changes

Agree to the submission terms.

  • Click on the Submit Research link from the Author Corner section in the left-side menu.
  • Then, click on the Ed.D. Dissertations link, which is located under Graduate Research.
  • Read the Submission Agreement.
  • If you have questions, contact libraryadmin@cu-portland.edu.
  • If you agree, place a check in the box and click on the Continue button.

You should now be on the page to provide information about your dissertation and upload it. Please follow these instructions.

  1. Enter the title of your dissertation using Headline Capitalization.
  2. Click on the icon with the pencil to confirm your contact information (name, email, etc.) is correct.
  3. Select the Month and enter the Year for when you defended your dissertation. Leave the Season and Day blank.
  4. Select the Document Type based on how you filled our your Library Permission Form.
    • Open Access Dissertation = access worldwide
    • Campus Access Dissertation = Concordia University access only
  5. Select College of Education for the College
  6. Select Education for the Department
  7. Select Doctorate of Education, Ed.D. for the Degree Name
  8. Enter the name of your main advisor, using the list of advisor names from this Uploading Dissertations guide
  9. If you had additional advisors, enter their names using the list of advisor names from this Uploading Dissertations guide
  10. Enter up to six (6) keywords that describe the topic of your dissertation (not required)
  11. Confirm that Education is provided as the Subject Category
    • If Education isn't provided as the Subject Category, select Education from the Available list and then click the Select button
  12. Copy and paste your abstract into the Abstract box. Use the available tools to edit the appearance, if needed
  13. Leave the Comments box empty
  14. Choose to Upload file from your computer
  15. Click the Browse button to locate the file on your computer
  16. If you have supplementary files, you may upload them separately using the Additional Files option (not required)
  17. Click on the Submit button when finished

You should receive a confirmation message that your dissertation has been successfully uploaded. The College of Education will review the upload, and, if changes to the submission need to be made, you will be contacted. Otherwise, your dissertation will be available according to the document type you selected (open access or campus access).
