Strategies to Avoid Plagiarism

  • Take notes in your own words--do not copy and paste from a source unless you plan to quote
  • Use PowerPoint slides to take notes and easily reorder ideas
  • When you write, reword what's in your notes
  • Immediately record titles, authors, and publication dates of sources that look relevant, even if you're not sure you'll use them
